Well, it’s finally here: the much anticipated, eagerly awaited Transition Week at St Mary’s College. You are no doubt wondering what the week has in store for you. Well, let’s take a look …

You will be getting involved in a variety of different exciting activities ranging from sports, such as Archery, to working with a highly acclaimed guest poet and Spelling guru!!. You will get the opportunity to mix with new students and hopefully make new life long friends. You will have taster lessons including RE, Science and Literacy as well as getting involved in sports teams and competitions. Exciting, eh?

The guest poet visiting St Mary’s, to work with you, is the highly entertaining Gez Walsh. Gez will introduce you to fun and interesting ways of reading, writing and performing poetry. Fantastic!

Our guest speakers include: Brian Steele (Olympic Cyclist), Jenny Morgan (Marvellous Spelling) and Craig Heap (a retired Commonwealth Games Gold medal winning gymnast.) Wow – how lucky are we to be in the presence of these people?!!!

You will be involved in three different sporting activities during the week. On offer are Archery, Trampolining, Table tennis, Boccia, … and more, much more!! Other sporting celebrities will also be paying a visit and sharing their experience, achievement and accolade to date. A great opportunity for you to learn from some of our greatest sports leaders!

Looking forward to meeting you

Please advise us immediately if your child is not attending on Induction Day or Induction week, or indeed if you do not require the place you have been offered at St Mary’s College!!!!!

Hello Everyone.

It has been great to meet so many of you! We’re really looking forward to getting to know you during Transition week!

Here are a few reminders which may help you:

1. Please come in your PE kit – t shirt, shorts and trainers.

2. Lunch – bring a pack up or money to buy lunch. Those who have a free school meal at Primary School will get a ticket from Mrs Kent at St Mary’s. Why not try something different in the canteen each day. £2 is enough to buy a good meal.

3. Bring a school bag and equipment for lessons – example: pen, pencil, ruler etc.

4. Remember which form you’re in and who your tutor is.

We will meet you on the playground near the Year 7 Social Area – please go straight there. Do NOT go to the main Reception.

5. Look forward to making new friends – you’re almost Year7 students now.

6. Know how you are getting home. Plan this now!

7. If you are being collected from St Mary’s please stick to the arrangements you make with your parent/carer about where you are meeting them. The Inglemire Lane entrance is a good place to meet.

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE BUS LOOP IF YOU ARE NOT USING THE BUS – THIS AREA IS VERY BUSY!

8. Buses

Students travelling on the East Riding buses (954,748,749) will pay £1 per journey (i.e £2 return) and the students travelling on the Hull buses will pay 70p per journey (i.e £1.40return).

NB: Pupils from St Richard’s, St Mary Queen of Martyrs and St Thomas More please see separate information on buses.

Enjoy your last few weeks at Primary School – remember to thank all the staff who have prepared you so well for the next phase of your education!

Mrs Hardy (Head of Transition) & Mrs Wright (Head of Year 7)
